The Hidden Canopy: Parakeet Parrots & Coffee Plants

The Hidden Canopy: Parakeet Parrots & Coffee Plants

Where design meets the wild. The field record is our way of documenting the species, stories, and spaces that inspire every Zoobotanic™ piece.

In the tropical forests of Central America, there is a special way of farming that doesn't involve clearing the land. It’s called Shade-Grown, and it creates a "vertical forest."

The Orange-fronted Parakeets are the forest’s colorful commuters. They use tall trees as "stepping stones" to travel safely across the habitat without being spotted by predators.

The Mexican Lilacs are known as the "mothers of cacao." These trees act as doctors to the forest. They naturally heal the soil, making it rich and healthy for everything growing around it.

Coffee Flowers & Cherries are amazing even if you aren't a coffee drinker! The blossoms smell like sweet jasmine, and the bright red "cherries" (which protect the coffee beans inside) are a vital food source for the diverse wildlife sharing the parakeet’s home.

A narrative brand infographic by Zoobotanic comparing bird-friendly shade-grown coffee farms with traditional sun-grown monoculture crops, illustrating canopy trees, native parakeet parrots, and soil roots.

If you see a farm with these pink Mexican Lilacs and tall trees, it means the birds have a home while the coffee is growing! By choosing coffee certified as "Shade-Grown" or "Bird-Friendly," you are directly protecting the architecture of this jungle umbrella.
